I had always seen him on TV and heard about Dansby Swanson but I never actually met him. I have only met one other famous person before so I am in shock. It was cool because this guy is normal but he is also famous and super cool. “He was super nice and even more attractive in person. It’s OK, I am not going to make you say no.’ He didn’t actually say no but he didn’t say yes. When I said something, I was like, ‘I know y’all have a game in Philadelphia next Saturday but I feel like I can still ask. It is sort of a blur because I was so shocked. We talked for a couple of minutes about the girl we both knew. “When I first walked up he was like, ‘This is so cool, let me give you a hug.’ Then he asked for my name and asked what school I went to.

I was like, ‘Is he going to take a picture with me or wave me off like cool sign, bye. I was trying to play it cool because obviously I couldn’t show I was freaking out. I was hoping for him to sign it and get a quick picture and leave, but he was super cool and talked for a couple of minutes,” she said. She wasn’t sure how the encounter would go. He turned around and looked at me and said, ‘Come down here.’ I was like, OK! Me and my mom and my dad and my brother all went down onto the field and we talked for a couple of minutes and took some pictures.”Ĭhiu said she was “shocked” Swanson asked her to go down on the field. He looked at me and said, ‘Hold on a second.’ I was waiting and him and Kenyan Drake signed jerseys and Kenyan left. I mouthed to her, ‘Get Dansby, tell him to look.’ She tapped him on the shoulder and he turned around and saw it and he laughed. Dansby’s back was to me but Kenyan Drake’s sister saw me holding the sign so she laughed. “I went and stood behind the dugout because that is sort of where they were talking. A couple of people came up and were signing different posters and Dansby wasn’t signing anything, but he was standing in front of their dugout talking to Kenyan Drake, the running back for the Dolphins,” Chiu said.

I didn’t even have enough time to think if it was real life or are they joking with me.”Ĭhiu went with her poster and stood near the dugout where players stand and sign autographs for fans, but Swanson wasn’t signing at the moment when she got down there. “At the most, I was expecting a quick signature and a quick picture and then he walks on to sign the next baseball. I am too scared.’ My brother said, ‘Camryn is about to leave her poster.’ My mom said, ‘Bring that, you are going to be so upset if you don’t bring it and at least see what happens,’ so I brought it,” Chiu said. “I made it and I was getting out of the car and said, ‘I think I am going to leave this. When she was leaving the car to walk to the stadium, she thought about not going through with it. He was one of my best friends on high school.’ I was like, ‘No way, that is so crazy’ so I was like, ‘Well I am definitely going to do it then.’”Ĭhiu and her family got to SunTrust Park a few hours before first pitch. I said, ‘I am going to the Braves game and I am going to make a prom sign for Dansby.’ I was just kidding. I was at bible study the other night and I was talking to my friend who knows him. “I always thought he is super cute and I love the Braves. That was pretty cool to get to meet him and have that connection. Their parents were friends and their grandparents were friends. It wasn’t, ‘I went to the same school and had a class together.’ They were good friends. “It was cool because they really were friends back then. She went back onto Facebook and was showing me pictures of them from when they were in high school,” Chiu said. “The day before was her birthday and sent her a big paragraph text telling her happy birthday. Turns out her friend said she knew Swanson and was good friends with him in high school. She mentioned a few days prior to the game to a friend of hers about making the poster, only kidding though. That student is North Oconee senior Camryn Chiu, a member of the Lady Titans soccer team. The student had a poster with ‘Dansby, Prom?’ written on it for Swanson. On Sunday a couple of hours before the Atlanta Braves were scheduled to play the San Diego Padres at SunTrust Park, the Braves social media tweeted a photo of a high school student posing with Braves’ shortstop Dansby Swanson.
